The Iditarod, March 7, 2026
We have updated our Iditarod resources and updates for the 2026 race.
This year the race takes the Northern Route. We have included several helpful maps so that your students can track the race.
The Iditarod Trail Race began in 1973. It is a long and grueling dog sled race covering nearly 1000 miles.
Students can pick their favorite musher, plot the trail, follow the leaders, and learn more about sled dogs and the great state of Alaska.
You will also find background history on the race and the dogs used, along with other maps, forms, charts, drawing lessons, unit studies, lesson plans, activities, and printables.
