This is a cute and wonderfully illustrated book about “fishes” for young children. Written by Rosalie G. Mendel and illustrated by Hazel Frazee, My Book of Ten Fishes is an introductory picture book for young readers covering:
- Star fish.
- Salmon.
- Lobster.
- Shark.
- Crab.
- Whale.
- Oyster.
- Sardine.
Now, you’ll notice two things: first, if you add those up you’ll come up with eight fish, not ten; and second, “fishes” is being used rather broadly. Each short description includes basic identifying facts — such as, starfish have little suckers on their underside, and salmon leap — just enough detail for an early acquaintance. Depending on your child’s interest, you can then leap yourself into further investigation.
My Book of Ten Fishes will delight young readers — and it’s free!
