Written in 1877 by Anna Sewell, Black Beauty is told in first person, that is, by the horse himself. Yet the book has been a best seller for over a hundred years because it addresses animal cruelty, very common at the time the book was written. Because of the theme, the original book may not be suitable for more sensitive children.
