The Christmas Candle by Max Lucado offers a “timeless message” that will warm the heart of your family this Christmas. Consider adding it to your favorite Christmas books to read aloud this year.
The small country town has a new Reverend. He’s not a thing like their old one who spent his life in service to the villagers. HE understood them.
But there is more. Much more.
The Story of the Candle
Since the 1600s an angel touches a candle made by the candlemaker every quarter of a century. The first was given to a young widow. She was told to light the candle and pray. Her fortunes changed. And each time since, something very significant and miraculous happens.
“And that candle has power?”
“No, God has the power. The candle is just the…”
“The vessel.”
The “superstition” displeases the new Reverend. And this is the year. How can they afford to raise the hopes of these people only to have them dashed?
“What are you afraid of, Reverend? Afraid the prayers won’t be answered or afraid they will?”…
“The mystery of God unsettles us all, Reverend. But isn’t mystery where God works? If he does only what we understand, is he God?”
A beautiful reminder that God is GOD. He still works miracles today. There can be forgiveness. Prayers are answered.
And sometimes we might not understand. Our faith is challenged. But as His children, we are His vessels. We are His tools. And when we are obedient without questioning, we see miracles….
Another wonderful story by Max Lucado. Highly recommended!
