We are putting the finishing touches on updates to our free music studies using the Child’s Own Book of Great Musicians series by Thomas Tapper. There are 13 weeks of free music studies for kids.
The Child’s Own Book of Great Musicians series by Thomas Tapper was written in the late 1800s covering great composers such as Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Handel, Verdi, and Wagner.
Each book in the series was originally written to be assembled by the child — pasting pictures in the correct place and eventually sewing the book together. Those elements cannot be included in a digital form. However, the books do lend themselves very well to notebooking!
You’ll find download options on the Introduction page along with suggestions for using the lessons.
If you include the introduction, by covering one composer each week you’ll have 13 weeks of lessons — enough to fill one semester along with vacation days and holidays.
The composers covered include:
- Bach.
- Beethoven.
- Chopin.
- Grieg.
- Handel.
- Mozart.
- Verdi.
- Other famous composers.
We have added a handful of new resources and are finalizing updates to the links.
You will also find parent/teacher suggestions, ideas for further investigation, hands-on and interactive activities, book recommendations, lesson plans and other units, and notebooking pages and printables.
We originally covered the composers in alphabetical order; however, we have included a timeline for those who prefer to cover the series chronologically.
Throughout the lessons we have also included map work.
You can expand the use of the book for a wide variety of ages by using the resources we provide.
Enjoy!
