507 Mechanical Movements is an interactive site based on a book published in 1868 by Henry T. Brown that shows the mechanical movements:
Embracing all those which are most important in dynamics, hydraulics, hydrostatics, pneumatics, steam engines, mill and other gearing, presses, horology, and miscellaneous machinery; and including many movements never before published and several which have only recently come into use.
This interesting site has provided illustrations of all of the 507 movements, many of them have been animated — a process that is apparently ongoing. There are also notes that help explain the mechanisms.
An Index makes it easy to find what you are looking for.
The gears in particular are very interesting. By using a gear set made for kids, you can keep ’em learning by challenging them to create the same mechanism.
