Many homeschoolers will face criticism at some point in their homeschooling “career.” It may come from family, friends, the well-meaning stranger or even the church. While these criticisms can be hurtful and disappointing, we can stay above the wake of loud voices by staying strong in our faith and remembering whom we serve. It really boils down to checking your fear! Are you fearing God or man?
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom.…
Psalm 111:10
If our actions are ruled by a healthy “fear of the Lord” and a willingness to serve and trust Him, observing His commands, then we can trust that our decisions will be ruled by His wisdom.
Commit thy works unto the Lord,
Proverbs 16:3
and thy thoughts shall be established.
If on the other hand, our actions are ruled by a fear of man — What will my friends think? What will my relatives say? How will this look to those in my church? Will my children be adequately prepared for life? — then we can expect our decisions to veer from a wise course and likely not benefit our children or our families.
The fear of man brings a snare,
Proverbs 29:25
But whoever trusts in the Lord shall be safe.
Stand strong in your convictions. Stand against the tide of loud voices, as you seek a higher goal in all of your homeschool decisions!
So we may boldly say:
The LORD is my helper;
Hebrews 13:6
I will not fear.
What can man do to me?
