Fruits & Veggies: A Unit Study

In light of the new dietary guidelines for 2025, we have updated our Fruits & Veggies unit to include the Eat Real Food plan.

The message is simple: eat real food.

To Make America Healthy Again, we must return to the basics. American households must prioritize diets built on whole, nutrient-dense foods—protein, dairy, vegetables, fruits, healthy fats, and whole grains. Paired with a dramatic reduction in highly processed foods laden with refined carbohydrates, added sugars, excess sodium, unhealthy fats, and chemical additives, this approach can change the health trajectory for so many Americans.

Our fruits and veggies unit includes U.S. dietary guidelines going all the way back to 1916. You may be amazed at some of the recommendations!

In addition to dietary guideline history, you’ll learn the difference between a fruit and a vegetable.

We include:

  • Nutrition charts.
  • Ways to start a garden.
  • How to determine a serving.
  • And suggestions for study.

We also include a book recommendation for “eating through the alphabet.” Maybe your student will find it a fun way to increase fruit and veggie input.

Lots of resources and a free set of simple notebooking pages to keep track of things.

It’ll be spring soon. Gardening is a great way to encourage little ones to eat their fruits and veggies!
