The best way to learn new words is to focus on them. This works especially well when the words are first encountered and there is an immediate purpose behind the exercise. The meaning of words studied in isolation generally is not retained. With this in mind, here is a set of free vocabulary notebook pages from the Oklahoma State Department of Education.
We have long advocated keeping a vocabulary notebook where new words can be kept and recorded — thus accomplishing the goal of providing immediate focus on unknown words. This free set includes four different forms for recording, one of which will likely appeal to your student, along with a progress chart to keep track of words and make sure that they are mastered.
Great free resource…and one more way to collect vocabulary!
