Insects Unit Study for K–3 {Free Download}

It’s spring. And that means bugs! We’ve linked to some of our favorite insect resources below, and are happy to add this great unit study aimed at grades K–3 (but easily adaptable for a wider ranges of ages) from Muhlenberg College: Insects Don’t Bug Us.

This free 32-page download is designed to be completed in four 30-minute hands-on lessons with the following stated goals:

  • Understand what makes an insect unique.
  • Learn about the types of insect families.
  • Practice using observation of body shapes and mouth parts to classify insects.
  • Understand how insects adapt to a variety of habitats.
  • Learn about the roles insects play within their habitats.

The first eight pages include the materials and advanced preparation needed to complete the study, along with suggested resources for student and teacher.

But what makes this a great unit are the over 23 pages of printables!

  • Insects PowerPoint Outline — could be printed and cut out to make informative little booklets for each insect group.
  • Pages for covers of notebooks.
  • Insect drawing and observing pages.
  • Insect journaling and writing prompt pages.

Perfect for making an insect notebook! And it’s free!
