Being Deliberate

Time passes so quickly.  I don’t think this is something we can really appreciate until we are slightly out of the forest — you know, the one with the trees that keep you from seeing the big picture.  Then we really start to notice how long things take, how little missteps add up, how a slight mis-focus can lead to a longer realization of a goal, how little bits each day add up to a whole — for good or … not.

This year I want to be deliberate — a deliberate child of God, a deliberate wife, a deliberate mom, a deliberate worker.  I don’t want to be so easily distracted.  I want to see the goals clearly day in and day out, have a firm path to reach them, and stay on the path.

For example, someone once said something to the effect that the difference between who I am today and who I will be next year is the books that I will have read.  Obviously then, my reading list is something I wish to be very deliberate about.

I’ll always be one who makes time for those serendipitous adventures that happen along life’s way.  That’s just part of the makeup — and God’s blessing — and not to be missed for the world!  But, there comes a time when you realize time really is running short.  And there really is a mission to be accomplished.  Better get busy….

“Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might.” — Ecclesiastes 9:10

Each decision — each distraction — will either bring us closer to or take us further away from our goals.

What are your goals this year?  In what areas do you want to be deliberate?  Write them down.  You don’t need a fancy template or form, just make a list of the things you want to accomplish in each area that is important to you.

Keep that list in front of you throughout the year.  And be deliberate!
