You’ll find these tools particularly suited to students in the “manipulative mode” when it comes to math:

Have you ever seen an arithmetic workbook that uses pictures to illustrate combining a group of three and a group of two, then on the same page it has problems using the symbols 3 + 2 = 5? That’s two modes….

The secret is to begin the child’s arithmetic at a young age by using real objects. Then spend a year or two having the child do a lot of arithmetic in her head. And after she can do that well, you finally begin working with abstract symbols.

An Easy Start in Arithmetic by Ruth Beechick

In An Easy Start in Arithmetic, Dr. Beechick offers several ways to use a hundred chart (number chart above) — from easy to advanced. You’ll also find many other suggestions for using fraction, addition, multiplication, and other manipulatives to the best advantage, if you are short on ideas.
