Music Theory Worksheets {Free}

Music Theory Worksheets {Free}

Why teach music theory? One of the ways to think of music theory is in the same way we consider grammar in relation to writing — it only makes sense after you know how to write (or in this case, play an instrument). One is the art, the other the science. And they work together, but best in the correct order. With that said, if you have a budding musician you may enjoy these quality free music theory worksheets!

Most music teachers know that students will usually run when you mention the word “theory.” Somehow it has the ability to take the interest right out of music. But it doesn’t have to. Once our students learn to enjoy music, then they can begin to learn the structure of music — how it works.

The Music Fundamentals workbooks at G Major Music Theory are a perfect start in learning music theory for those already enjoying music. The author, Gilbert DeBenedetti, holds a Master of Arts Degree in Composition and Music Theory and  has taught music theory and music AP classes. He offers the course at no cost. You can read more about the author on his about page.

The workbooks cover:

  • The keyboard.
  • Treble clef.
  • Bass clef.
  • Rhythm.
  • Scales.
  • Key signatures.
  • Intervals.
  • Much, much more!

Note: While the workbook pages are free, the answers and other helps are available only with a paid membership to the site, so it will help to have a basic understanding of music theory yourself to use them at no cost.

These free worksheets and interactive flashcards are a perfect complement to our free music studies, or any other avenues in music appreciation.

You’ll also find a wonderful repository of free sheet music to download for a variety of levels. Audio and video files are also included.

Perfect find for the homeschool handy-mom!
