Free Memorization Tool

There are a whole host of reasons why memorization is important — and even more reasons why is important to memorize Scripture. If you or your children have trouble memorizing Scripture (or anything else), you’ll appreciate this free memorization tool.

You simply copy and paste the text you wish to memorize into the top box. Then press the “Convert” key. The text is transformed into only the first letters of the words from your memory text.

As an example (copied from Proverbs 3:5-6):

Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.

(We have found that paying attention to spacing, indentation, paragraphs and punctuation makes the exercise easier. For example, I usually indent every other line — something I’m not able to reflect in this post!)

After conversion:

T i t L w a y h,
A l n o y o u;
I a y w a H,
A H s d y p.

This method has several memorization advantages.

  1. You are not relying on the full text. The mind has to fill in the differences, giving you a head start on the road to memorization.
  2. It is easy to make the transition from using the memorization tool to reciting without the tool. Since you are not memorizing the first letters of the tool outputs, the tool stays out of the way and does not become the focus or a crutch.

One final tip — it is initially useful to read through the original text a few times before reciting with the memorization tool.

Give it a try!
